Three routes to a car licence
All three routes lead to a class B licence. The difference lies in the test vehicle and in what you are allowed to drive afterwards.
Class B
Training and practical test in a vehicle with manual transmission.
Class B78
Training and practical test in a vehicle with automatic transmission.
B197
Practical test in an automatic car, plus proof of your manual-transmission skills.
Legal basis for B197: § 17a of the German Driving Licence Regulation (FeV) and § 5a of the Learner Driver Training Regulation (FahrschAusbO). They provide for at least ten training units of 45 minutes each in a class B vehicle with manual transmission, plus a final drive of at least 15 minutes inside and outside built-up areas. Code 197 must be entered within one year of completing this training. We will discuss the current rules and your personal schedule with you at the driving school.

That depends on what you want to drive later. If you want to be confident driving manual cars, choose class B or B197. If you will always drive automatics, B78 gets you there faster. We will discuss this with you in a consultation.
Yes. Holders of a licence with code 78 can have the restriction removed through appropriate practical training and proof of their ability to drive a manual car. We will clarify the exact route with you in person.
You register in person at the driving school. Come to Ulmenstr. 2 during our opening hours – we will discuss everything else with you directly.
